Dialup Setup Information - Windows 2000

1. Click "Start", "Settings", and then "Control Panel". Within "Control Panel", double-click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon, and double-click the "Network" and "Dial-Up Connections" icon.

2. Double-click "Make New Connection" to open the setup wizard, and click the "Next" button. Select "Dial-up to the Internet" and click the "Next" button.

3. Select "I want to setup my Internet connection manually", or "I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)", and click the "Next" button. Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem", and click "Next".

4. Within the "Area Code" and "Telephone Number" sections, type the Surfanytime dialup number that is local to your area, and click "Next". Surfanytime's dialup numbers can be found at http://www.surfanytime.net/support.html 

5. Within the "User name" and "Password" sections, type in your IDs exactly as they appear in your confirmation email, and click "Next".

6. For Connection Name, type Surfanytime, and click "Next". Select "Yes" in the "Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now area", and click "Next".

7. Type your name in the "Display name" section, and click "Next". Type your Surfanytime email address in the "E-mail address" section, and click "Next".

8. For the setting titled "My incoming mail server is a...", select "POP3".

9. Type mail.surfanytime.net into the "Incoming mail POP3 server" field. Type smtp.surfanytime.net into the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field, and click the "Next" button.

10. For the "Account Name" and "Password" sections, type in your IDs exactly as they appear in your confirmation email. Check/Select the option box titled "Remember Password".

11. Uncheck/Deselect the option box titled "Leave Log on using Secure Password Authentication", and click "Next". From there, click the "Finish" button. DO NOT select the "Connect to the Internet immediately" option.

12. From here, you can create a shortcut icon for the Surfanytime dialer on your desktop screen. Click "Start", "Settings", and then "Control Panel". Within "Control Panel", double-click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon, and double-click the "Network" and "Dial-Up Connections" icon.

13. You should see a separate icon for the Surfanytime dialer you just created. Right mouse-click over that icon, and select "Create Shortcut".

14. You should receive this message - "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead". Click the "Yes" button, and the dialer icon will appear on your desktop screen.

The above has configured a single, 64K connection on your machine.  Now, we will configure it to dial the two channels to 128K.

1. Click "Start", "Settings", and then "Control Panel". Within "Control Panel", double-click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon, and right-click the connection icon you created above.

2. Click on Properties

3. Cick on the General tab
a. Check the boxes next to the modems you wish to use

b. Check the box next to "All devices dial the same phone number"
c. Enter the appropriate access number in the telephone box.

4. Click on Options tab: In the "Multiple Devices" box, choose "Dial all devices"
5. Click on Networking tab
6. Click on Settings tab

a. "Enable LCP Extensions" should NOT be checked
b. "Enable Software Compression" should be checked
c. "Negotiate multi-link for single-link connection" should be checked
 

7. Click OK and OK again to close out of dialog boxes.
8. Finished.


To start your Internet connection, double-click the dialer icon to open the dialer program. Your username and password should appear, and you'll want to check the "Save Password" option.

Click the "Dial" button, and a "Status" box will appear to display the progress of your connection attempt. That box will disappear once you've successfully established your Internet connection.
